Wedding Dress Sizing Can be a Nightmare
Your big day is approaching and you are thrilled to get together with friends and family to purchase your dream wedding gown. It is one of the most important days of your life and you want to look beautiful. You have worked out vigorously and dieted to near starvation. You enter the salon expecting to wear at least a size smaller than your usual size. You head over to the size 6 gowns expecting to fit in every style and you bridal consultant hands you a size 10 or 12. You insist that you wear a size 6 and begin trying them on only to find out that you cannot slip them over your hips and the zipper only goes half way up. If this happens to you, please don’t despair, you are not alone.
In the past, most leaders in the bridal industry started off in Europe where sizes are measured by the metric system. These sizes run smaller than in the US. Today, styles that are made here, still use European sizing based on body types of the past. Today more women play sports, exercise, and diet. Body types have evolved but wedding dress sizes have not.
My advice is, when it is time to shop ignore the dress size and find the style that makes you smile!
